Mestre Virgilio:

Master Vigilio began Capoeira between 9 and 10 years of age in the neighbourhood of Jaqueira do Carneiro, where he visited the Capoeira of his father Elisio, known as Espinho Remoso, an excellent Capoeirista (Capoeira Player) and lord of the dangerous rabo de arraia (kick style), who principally refused to teach due to lack of time, but later accepted and placed the boy Virgílio directly with older Capoeiristas such as Diogo, Fúlor and Florzinho amongst others.
After some time, he began to frequent the academy of Master Caiçara, in the neighbourhood of Liberdade, for three years on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – coming and going on foot- after many roads and hard training he earned his first title as Contra Mestre (vice-Master level). Vigilio left the academy which caused problems with Master Caiçara, but after some time the strength of their friendship returned. Vigilio began to frequente the Capoeira of Masters Valdemar e Pastinha.
After this he began to teach in Fazenda Grande on the spare bit of land next to his house and introduced Capoeira to the neighbourhood with the famous roda on a Sunday, where passed hundreds of Capoeiristas , amongst them; Bom Cabrito, Valdemar, Paulo dos Anjos, Diogo, Zé do Lenço and many others. With time, his art was acknowledged and he was given the title of Master, a merit that people thought well earned.
